Etihad Rail Adds Six Extra Abu Dhabi and Dubai Trains for the 3-4 October Weekend: Over 2,000 Seats After Strong Demand

2 October 2026

Etihad Rail has added six extra passenger trains between Abu Dhabi and Dubai for the weekend of 3 and 4 October 2026, only two days after the Dubai section opened on 30 September. Each day gets three additional services with more than 1,000 seats, so the weekend adds more than 2,000 seats in total. The extra trains leave at 12:14 (Abu Dhabi to Dubai), 13:43 (Dubai to Abu Dhabi) and 16:43 (Abu Dhabi to Dubai), and tickets went on sale at 2pm on Friday, 2 October. The operator links the decision to exceptional early demand. The trip between Al Yalayis Station in Dubai and Mohammed Bin Zayed City Station in Abu Dhabi takes about 64 minutes, with fares from AED 39 in Comfort and AED 109 in Premium.

The extra trains run on both weekend days at the same times. According to The National, they come on top of the 10 regular daily trains, which means 13 trains on each of the two days: six departures from Dubai and seven from Abu Dhabi.

Why the extra trains appeared so fast

Regular passenger services between Dubai and Abu Dhabi started on Wednesday, 30 September 2026. The first scheduled train left Al Yalayis at 06:14 that morning. Etihad Rail explained the weekend extension by exceptional early demand from passengers.

Khaleej Times reported that within two hours of the 2pm sales opening, Premium seats on several Saturday trains between Dubai and Abu Dhabi were already sold out, while some Comfort seats were still available on most trains. An Etihad Rail spokesperson told the newspaper that passengers book on average 10 days in advance. In August the company gave a similar figure for the first line: by 3 August 2026 it had sold more than 70,000 tickets, with an average booking window of 12 days.

Etihad Rail has said throughout the rollout that it adds capacity in line with actual demand. Each passenger train carries up to 400 people, and the passenger fleet consists of 13 trains, according to Economy Middle East. The announcement covers only 3 and 4 October. Whether the extra departures will become permanent has not been announced.

How the Dubai to Abu Dhabi service works

The Dubai terminal, Al Yalayis Station, sits in Jumeirah Golf Estates near Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road. It connects to the Dubai Metro Red Line through a 400 metre elevated pedestrian walkway, and when the Gold Line opens in 2032 the stop will become an interchange between the two metro lines. In Abu Dhabi the trains arrive at Mohammed Bin Zayed City Station.

  • Regular timetable: 10 trains a day, five in each direction.
  • Journey time: about 64 minutes, at speeds of up to 200 km/h.
  • Booking: Etihad Rail app, website etihadrail.ae, ticket machines and counters at the station.
  • Integration: bookings are linked to the Nol system, so one QR code works across Etihad Rail, Metro, Tram and buses (Economy Middle East).

We covered the launch timetable and the station itself in our earlier pieces on the Dubai to Abu Dhabi ticket prices from AED 39 and the opening of Al Yalayis Station on 30 September.

Where the network goes next

Passenger operations began on 30 June 2026 between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah. On 30 September the network added Dubai and Al Dhaid in Sharjah, so four destinations are now served. According to the latest published rollout schedule, Zayed City and Liwa stations in Al Dhafra open on 30 November, the remaining Al Dhafra stations on 30 December 2026, and Sharjah Station (University City) on 30 March 2027. The full national railway runs about 900 km from Ghuwaifat on the Saudi border to Fujairah.

What it means for companies working between Dubai and Abu Dhabi

For a business registered in one emirate and serving clients in the other, the rail link turns a drive of uncertain length into a scheduled trip of about an hour at a known fare. A round trip in Comfort starts at AED 78. The first weekend shows the practical side: Premium seats on popular trains sell out within hours, and passengers book about 10 days ahead.

  • Book meetings in Abu Dhabi around the published departures and buy tickets early, especially for Premium.
  • If plans may change, the Value (plus AED 20) or Flex (plus AED 50) options cost less than a lost Saver ticket.
  • Al Yalayis is close to Al Furjan, Dubai Investment Park, Dubai Production City and Dubai South, which matters for staff living there and working in Abu Dhabi.
  • Reimbursed travel is easier to document: each trip has a ticket with a fixed price and time.
  • Transport access does not change what a licence allows. Where a company may sign contracts and operate is still set by its licence type and jurisdiction.

The last point is easy to overlook. Easier travel to Abu Dhabi does not let a Dubai free zone company trade on the Abu Dhabi mainland. If you plan regular work in both emirates, the structure has to be chosen first, as we explain in our UAE company formation guide.

Conclusion

Two days after regular service between Dubai and Abu Dhabi began on 30 September 2026, Etihad Rail added six weekend trains for 3 and 4 October with more than 2,000 extra seats. The extra departures run at 12:14, 13:43 and 16:43, tickets went on sale on 2 October at 14:00, and the base timetable stays at 10 trains a day. With a trip of about 64 minutes and fares from AED 39, the route is already usable for business travel between the two emirates, but seats, especially in Premium, need to be booked in advance.
