Dubai Opens New Al Qudra Road Bridge, Cutting Intersection Wait Times by 85%

2026-08-09

Dubai’s road network has taken another measurable step forward. On Sunday, 9 August 2026, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) opened a new 700-metre, four-lane bridge at the intersection of Al Qudra Road and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street. The bridge carries up to 6,000 vehicles per hour toward Al Qudra and completes the main traffic configuration at one of the busiest junctions serving Dubai’s fast-growing southern communities. The effect is dramatic: waiting time at the intersection drops by 85%, from around seven minutes to about one minute, and journey time along the corridor falls by roughly 70%, from 9.4 to 2.8 minutes. More than 400,000 residents and visitors of Arabian Ranches, Motor City, Studio City, DAMAC Hills, Mudon, Town Square and the surrounding districts will feel the difference on their daily commute.

What exactly opened

The new structure sits on the southern side of the intersection and serves traffic heading toward Al Qudra. It is 700 metres long, carries four lanes and handles up to 6,000 vehicles per hour. With this opening, the junction’s main traffic movements are now fully grade-separated: the opposite bridge, serving traffic from the Al Qudra direction toward Umm Suqeim, opened back in February 2026. Together the two bridges lift the intersection’s total capacity from about 7,800 to 19,400 vehicles per hour.

The RTA is not finished with the junction yet. Two additional side ramp bridges, one of 500 metres and one of 900 metres, are scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2026, adding dedicated turning movements and further smoothing the flow between the two arterial roads.

The Al Qudra project in numbers

The bridge is part of the wider Al Qudra Road Development Project, a package of works reshaping the main artery of Dubai’s southern residential belt:

  • 700-metre, four-lane bridge with a capacity of 6,000 vehicles per hour, opened 9 August 2026
  • Waiting time at the intersection down 85%, from about 7 minutes to about 1 minute
  • Journey time along the corridor down roughly 70%, from 9.4 to 2.8 minutes
  • Intersection capacity up from 7,800 to 19,400 vehicles per hour
  • 4,000 metres of bridges across the project in total
  • 11.6 kilometres of Al Qudra Road being expanded, plus 3 kilometres of service roads
  • 4.8 kilometres of a new southern road and 4.8 kilometres of Emirates Road widening
  • Two more ramp bridges of 500 and 900 metres opening in Q4 2026
  • More than 400,000 residents and visitors benefiting

According to Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the RTA, the project forms part of the authority’s integrated plan to develop key corridors serving residential communities and to keep pace with urban expansion and population growth in the area.

Why Dubai’s southern belt matters

The communities along Al Qudra Road and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, including Arabian Ranches 1 and 2, Dubai Motor City, Dubai Studio City, Akoya, Mudon, DAMAC Hills, Sustainable City, Town Square, Mira and DAMAC Hills 2, have been among the fastest-growing residential areas in the emirate. Villa districts here absorbed a large share of the population inflow of recent years, and prices and rents have climbed accordingly. Yet for years the area’s road access lagged behind its construction pace: a single congested intersection could add ten minutes to every trip toward the city.

That is the gap the RTA is now closing, and the approach mirrors what the authority is doing across the emirate. In central Dubai, the recently opened Oud Metha tunnel removed a long-standing bottleneck on Dubai-Al Ain Road, while on the national scale the AED 750 million Emirates Road upgrade is widening the truck and transit backbone that connects the northern emirates with Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Road capacity in the UAE is treated as ongoing operational work with published numbers, not as a one-off construction campaign.

What it means for companies working with the UAE

Faster, more predictable access to 400,000 people is a commercial fact, not just a traffic statistic:

  • Retail, clinics, gyms, schools and service businesses in the southern communities draw from a wider catchment when a cross-district trip takes 3 minutes instead of 10
  • Delivery fleets, maintenance crews and field-service teams serving villa communities complete more jobs per day on a corridor carrying more than double the previous capacity
  • Residential and commercial real estate along Al Qudra Road gains accessibility, which historically translates into stronger occupancy and values in Dubai’s suburban districts
  • Contractors and suppliers in roadworks, bridge construction, lighting and traffic systems see a continued pipeline of RTA packages, with two more ramps due in Q4 2026
  • Businesses choosing where to base staff can treat the southern belt as a realistic option: housing is cheaper than central Dubai, and the commute penalty is shrinking with every opening

For companies planning to serve this growing market, the entry steps are standard: register a company with licence activities matching your services, open a corporate bank account to invoice locally, and arrange work visas and residency for the team on the ground.

How Atlant Capital can help

Atlant Capital sets up and supports companies in Dubai, across the other emirates and in the UAE’s free zones. If your plans involve a service business for Dubai’s residential communities, a contracting or supply company aiming at infrastructure work, or simply a UAE base for regional operations, we help select the right jurisdiction and licence, complete the registration end to end, open corporate bank accounts with UAE banks and process visas and Emirates ID for owners and employees. We work with clients from Russia, the CIS and beyond, and we keep the process practical: real timelines, real costs, no surprises.

The bottom line

The new Al Qudra Road bridge is a textbook example of how Dubai manages growth: identify the bottleneck, build the fix, publish the numbers. A 700-metre bridge opened on 9 August 2026 cuts intersection waiting time by 85% and journey time by 70% for more than 400,000 people, with two more ramps arriving by the end of the year. For residents it means a shorter commute; for businesses it means a large, affluent and still-expanding market that just became easier to reach. Infrastructure keeps compounding in the UAE, and each opening quietly strengthens the case for building a business here.
