Dubai has opened another piece of its road upgrade puzzle. Overnight into 9 August 2026, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) opened a new 260-metre tunnel connecting Dubai-Al Ain Road with the Oud Metha Service Road. The single-lane tunnel handles up to 1,200 vehicles per hour and is designed to remove the traffic overlap and lane weaving that slowed motorists moving between the two roads. It is part of the Oud Metha Road and Al Asayel Street Development Project, now 90% complete, which will lift the corridor’s capacity by 50% and cut travel time along it from around 20 minutes to just 5. Two more tunnels and another bridge are scheduled to open by the end of August 2026, which will bring the project close to full delivery.
